Nurses Brassard, Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association Nursing Service

This early armband, still to be definitively identified ,but featured in early cabinet card photos of the 1890s/1900s.In red and white silk it has an embroidered lozenge shape with the intertwined AAs of Queen Alexandra, topped by an imperial crown. Although she went on to support the early military nursing services with similar cypher badges I believe this probably relates to what started out as the Soldiers' and Sailors' Families Association in 1885.In 1892 it set up a domiciliary Nursing Service along the lines of Queen Victorias Jubilee Nurses and after 1898 these were granted the title Alexandra Nurses and the badge of the intertwined AAs which feature on this armband.I believe it dates to the Edwardian era prior to the First World War

The Condition is excellent with hook and loop fixings.Length 34cm width 6cm.Another museum quality piece
