Aberdeen Maternity Hospital ,Silver Midwives badge

A silver and enamel midwives badge for the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital. The midwifery training school was started in 1916 but the design of a badge was made by students of the Grays school of Art.The triangular shape had rounded edges so as not to injure patients.The design at the centre are based upon early Christian symbols for Man, Woman and Child to form the family unit.Also incorporated into the design is a saltire cross for the patron Saint of Scotland.In green enamel with silver details this badge doesn't surface that often.First awarded in 1973.
