St Mary's Hospital Portsmouth,Nurses Badge

A white metal and enamel nurses badge from the Saint Mary's Hospital Portsmouth.It consists of an eight pointed Maltese cross design in white enamel over a red Geneva cross.The central shield bears the motif to the crescent and star from the town's arms.Two scroll bears the title Saint Mary's Hospital Portsmouth and a third the motto Heaven's Light our Guide,which is the same motto that was also used by the Order of the Star of India and was used on Indian troopships which regularly travelled between Portsmouth and the East.
The condition is generally very good but with little damage to the enamel but with bending to one of the tips of the cross( this design often sustains some damage ).Ribbon is rather faded and dirty but intact,pin back fixing.Named to Beryl Jean Harvey June 1949 .Height 62mm
