Poplar Hospital with GNC badge pair
A pair of badges awarded to the same nurse for her training in the 1940s.
The first is a large and heavy Silver Nurses badge for the Poplar Hospital (previously the Poplar Hospital for Accidents.)The design features the distinctive Dockyard gates directly opposite the Hospital(which provided many of their patients).This is the one of several different versions of the badges from this hospital .
It is Hallmarked for JAW & Co (J A Wylie & Co) with the year letter for 1947.Very Good condition with only minor surface scratches, pin and clasp intact .Engraved for I A Wells 1945-1947 Affiliated.
The second item is a chrome and enamel General Nursing Council For England & Wales badge.this is named for I A Wells RFN 15384 28.9.45. Condition is fair only with chrome loss in places and to the rear.
in the records it shows Isabel Amy Wells as having trained at Plaistow Fever Hospital from 1942-1944 and it appears that she went on to complete her General Nurse component part training at Poplar.
